Rwanda’s Kibira National Park

located in the north western area of Burundi in the mountains of congo-nile divide and the foot hills of the Rwanda, covering an area of about 400 square kilometers. The Kibira National Park is the second largest natural reserve in Burundi. The Kibira National Park is about 61.3 kilometers and around 1 hr 11 minutes drive from Bunjumbura International Airport which is the main of entry into Burundi.

The Kibira is home to a number of primate species, including chimpanzees and black and white colobus monkeys, and boasts of over 250 species of birds such as, Francolin, hawk eagle, flufftail, Ruwenzori Turaco, Grey parrot, turtle dove, flycatcher, starling, babbler and Kivu Ground thrush among many others.

Numerous streams and rivers that irrigate the country in the east as well as in the west have their sources in this park. The rainy forest of the land plays a prominent role for the formation of the basins of Congo and Nile rivers. Tourists can go deep in the dark undergrowth to discover the charms of the primeval forest, with amazing melodies of birdsall along the way. You can pass through huge tea plantations of Teza and Rwegura that further constitute charming attractions.

  • I went to see the gorillas in the Uganda side but I still very much want to see Rwanda side, it’s really fascinates me!! I only visited Kigali in Rwanda and think I still have so much to see!!

  • I agree with Jagriti that Rwanda is known for is dense nature and Kibira national park just proves that! The forest is absolutely dense no wonder wildlife around there is too much. Anyway,the park looks green and beautiful!
