How To Cook Ofe Achara
OFE ACHARA is a traditional Igbo soup made from a wild grass called “Achara”, known for its health benefits. The Achara grass is finely chopped and boiled until soft, then added to a rich broth of meat, fish, egusi moulds and other spices, creating a unique and flavorful soup.
The soup is known for its numerous health benefits, and can be enjoyed with fufu, garri, or semolina.

Here’s a recipe for ofe achara
Ingredients:
– Beef
– Achara
– Dry catfish
– Stock fish
– Ukazi leaves
– Uziza leaves(optional)
– Onga Cube( any seasoning cube of choice)
– Salt
– Pepper
– Onions
– Periwinkle
– Achi
– Crayfish
– Pounded yam (for serving)

Method:
– Wash the beef properly with salt.
– Season with ONGA Cube, salt, pepper and onions.
– Set on fire and allow to cook for 20 minutes.
– Strip the achara and cut into tiny pieces.
– Wash and set aside.
– Wash and debone the dry catfish, set aside.
– Wash the stock fish and set aside.
– Add the dry catfish into the pot and allow to cook for 2 minutes.
– Pluck the Ukazi and Uziza leaves.
– Wash, slice and set aside.
– Add the Achara and 2 tablespoons of periwinkle into the pot.
– Stir properly and allow to simmer for 3 minutes.
– Mix the achi and ground crayfish and add into the soup.
– Add ONGA cube and allow to cook for 2 minutes.
– Add the Uziza (add a bit of Uziza leaves) and Ukazi leaves, allow to simmer for a minute.
– Serve with Pounded Yam.
