Located at the northern end of Msambweni Bay in Kwale County in southeastern Kenya. Chale Island is a small romantic island situated 600 meters off the mainland. 10 km south of Diani, 1,2 km long and 0,8 km wide, with a general north/south orientation. The Island is divided into two parts; resort and sacred forest or “kaya”. The resort lies in 15 acres of indigenous ancient forest, with a stunning 10,000 square meter white sand bay which is protected by a vibrant coral reef. With an explosion of colorful flora and fauna, the chale island is truly magical and also features a mystical inland tidal mangrove lake.
Lamu Island is a part of the Lamu Archipelago of Kenya. The island is linked by boat to Mokowe on the mainland and to Manda Island, where there is an airport. There are no roads on the island, but rather alleyways and footpaths, and therefore, there are few motorized vehicles on the island. Residents move about on foot or by boat, and donkeys are used to transport goods and materials.
Lamu is a place like no other, a peaceful tropical island where life is lived at it’s own relaxed rhythm, but a place whose history is as mysterious and fascinating as the winding streets of it’s medieval stone town. 3. Rusinga Island
Rusinga Island, Located in the eastern part of Lake Victoria at the mouth of the Winam Gulf with an elongated shape approximately 10 miles (16 km) from end to end and 3 miles (5 km) at its widest point. Rusinga Island is an ideal and perfect destination for people seeking an exotic yet tranquil getaway. Rusinga Island’s most popular attractions include fishing, sailing and watersports at the Lake Victoria.
Funzi Island is a settlement in Kenya’s Kwale County. Funzi consists of four mangrove covered islands where Funzi Island is the main island and the only one with permanent inhabitants. Funzi Island is home to the Shirazi Tribe with some of their village having approximately 1500 members and are sustain on fishing and agriculture. The archipelago is located in Kwale district and is less known to tourists than the nearby Diani Beach. Funzi Island is known for its pristine beaches and as Kenya’s best nesting site for a variety of sea turtles, such as green turtle, Chelonia mydas, hawksbill, Eretmochelys imbricata and leatherback, Dermochelys coriacea.
5. Manda Island
Manda is an island of the Lamu Archipelago of Kenya, known for the prosperous 9th century ports of Takwa and Manda town. The island is now linked by ferry to Lamu and is home to Manda Airport, while Manda Toto island lies to its west. The island is separated from the mainland by the narrow Mkanda channel. Manda island is a jewel in Kenya’s stunning coastline, Manda is the perfect escape for families, honeymooners, and couples looking for the ultimate experience.
