Abuja National Mosque
ABUJA NATIONAL MOSQUE
(Also known as Nigerian National Mosque)
This is one of the most iconic buildings in Nigeria. I always marvel at it when I pass.
Here’s some things I found out about this magnificent building after some research:
In 1981 a group of prominent local Muslims decided to request the construction of a national mosque and to contribute to the project with donations. The construction work was entrusted to the AIM Consultants Ltd and ended in 1984. The four minarets are high about 120 meters, while the large central dome is 60 meters.
The building includes a library and a conference room. The complex also includes a conference center able to serve five hundred people, the office of the Islamic Center and the residential facilities for imams and muezzins.
It’s open to non-Muslims except during congregational prayers.
